Grand Tour of the North Day 8 (blog 2)

Cambuskenneth Abbey where Wallace live as a youth is situated only a couple of mile from his monument close to the river Forth.
Its also the resting place of James 3rd & his wife Margaret of Denmark.
The only part of Abbey still standing is the bell tower which was restored in 1865 Augustinian monks lived here until the abbey was reduced to a ruin after protestant Reformation of 1561.
King Robert1 held parliament at the abbey shortly after the battle of Bannockburn 1314. Those Scots who opposed him were stripped their titles & estates.
The abbey grounds only open now in the summer months & worth visiting.
There are information boards charting it's history.
Having spent a good hour there made my way back to Stirling crossing the river further down the Forth.
Arriving back at YHA & enjoying a nice cup of tea & reflecting on yet another interesting day exploring Scottish history & enjoying the wonderful weather.
