Grand Tour of the North Day 17 Nairn Beach & Culbin Forest

Everytime I stay in Inverness I always find time to visit Nairn, it's a short bus or train ride away & Worthy of a visit. Nairn has a main shopping street with quite a few craft & independent shops including a antique shop.
There's The harbour & beach & there's always a chance of spotting Moray Firth dolphins.  Also Worthy of a visit is Culbin Forest.
It's a short walk from the bus station into town & made my way down High Street & crossing over to Harbour Road until I reached the harbour, which was full of sailing boats. Sadly no fishing boats.  Nairn was famous for its Herring fishing. An area close to the harbour was known as Fishertown.
Before going down to the beach, I had a cup of tea at the Harbour cafe. Afterwards I walked around the harbour took a few photos including one of the statue of the Fisher wife. Made my on to the beach & as expected the tide was out......way, way out!! Walked along the beach talking photos heading towards Culbin Forest in the distance. Tall sand dunes hide the vegetation on the other side. Some of the sand dunes are 15 metres tall. Spread out along the beach are tree stumps, this was all forest at one time.
This is no ordinary forest & Cubin's fragile shoreline in no ordinary coast. It's a wonderful place to walk. The woodland is made up of Scots & Corsican pine, Birch, Alder & more, home to many species of birds & mammals, insects & fungi & lichen.  I can never get bored exploring this place, there's always something new to discover.
