Started my journey to Inverness with a photograph on the steps of the hostel just like I did last time I stayed there a couple of years ago.
As usual I arrived at the station in plenty of time & had rather a large coffee in the buffet.... Not that i was expecting or wanting a large coffee, I think the very friendly girl thought I probably assuming it was a large one I wanted...
Train arrived boarded & within minutes it pulled away from the platform
"farewell Aberdeen"
We passed through pretty much a industrial / commercial landscape with blocks of housing here & there. Next station was Dyce. As the train approached Dyce I could see the station buildings had gone & reduce to a shelter.
Just after leaving Dyce the landscape opened up revealing rolling fields of gold & meandering river criss crossing the landscape.
As we approached Inverurie small industrial units appeared. Again shelters for passengers..... Not a station to me..... I want character something that looks the part. We were heading through some beautiful scenery, swaying golden yellow fields, grazing cows & sheep & the sunshine set the scene on beautiful landscape
Next station stop would be Insch & as we arrived at the station it was delightful to see old station buildings dated 1880 white washed building
Huntly our next station, the landscape became more varied dense woodland rolling hills & fields. We seemed to pass through more cuttings & suddenly rise above landscape & fall again out of sight.
Not to say about Huntly or Keith stations shelters on the platform same old
boring stations.
From Keith to Elgin, Forres & Nairn the landscape pretty much the same dense woodland & fields of gold, cuttings always opening up.
My favourite station is Nairn. All the buildings remain, beautiful station
On leaving Nairn we get a glimpse of Inverness Airport with a few planes on the runway, if fact one took off & flew over the train.
It wasn't long before Inverness station came into view,
" we are now approaching Inverness where this train terminates" was announced.
passing through the sidings, the train slowed & finally came to a stop.
We had arrived..... It was good to be here again.
